As I sit here today and reflect on the journey of this past year, I realize that a wedding brings so much more than a day of celebration.
It is a journey, beyond the planning, the traditions, the dresses, cake and flowers!
It is a journey of perseverance, patience, perspectives, emotions, and character.
It brings out the good, the bad, the beautiful, and yes, the ugly at times; of each person. Each individual with their own thoughts, ideas and dreams, coming together to plan a “perfect” day. Knowing that nothing is ever “perfect”, makes the whole process quite a challenge and very interesting at times!
Words are spoken out of places filled with too much worry, tears flow from eyes that are overwhelmed and tired, nerves sizzle with each new detail that comes out of nowhere.
Wedding dementia takes hold, disrupting the normal routines of life, and people become someone else, in the craziness of it all!
With that being said, as we step out of the madness, there are so many things that are changing and becoming new, beyond the “wedding”.. Beyond what we actually see and is yet to come.
A daughter is starting a new life, a family is growing into more, a Mom & Dad are letting go. Every life is changing and transforming into something new and different. Each person, has their own feelings in where they are at and what this all means to them, facing individual changes, all different from each other’s.
And through all this, relationships are made, foundations are born, and we all come together in new ways, for a new journey. We learn things about each other, as well as ourselves. We realize the things that truly matter. We learn what love, compassion and understanding actually are, if we choose to take our “selves” out of the picture and look at what is happening all around us. And… that is the challenge, but also the blessing!
The “perfect” day will have its glitches, they always come. Yet, it will be those exact moments, where the memories of a lifetime will be made and the joy beyond any expectation will be experienced!
A wedding IS SO MUCH MORE! I am grateful for all that’s come, and look forward to the journey of so much more!!
